Q: Can I play in more than one water polo club?
A: Water Polo season is divided in summer and winter season, each run by different bodies.

Many Burnaby Water Polo Club players join the summer club Burnaby Barracudas for the summer season, which is member of BCSSA.

In addition, some cadet and older players join elite programs with Pacific Storm Water Polo or Fraser Valley Water Polo Club, in addition to playing for Burnaby Water Polo Club. Our practices and games schedule occasionally conflicts with the elite program schedules, however all kids manage to get the most from both programs.

Q: Is it true that I may not play in the summer water polo program with BCSSA?
A: Some players, usually those being involved with water polo at the national level may not be eligible for the summer water polo program under current BCSSA ruling.

BCSSA Water Polo Eligibility – 2008 Season

There always seems to be some questions about who can still play BCSSA Water Polo and who is no longer eligible to play with BCSSA. In order to clarify the eligibility list for everyone, I will expand on the list. I have changed the order and expanded on what is stated in the BCSSA Rules and Regulations – Administration Section to help explain the guidelines.
 
The exclusion of elite players is based on the tenet that BCSSA Water Polo is developmental in nature and increased participation is to be encouraged. It further recognizes that the elite level players have adequate opportunities for both training and play through National and International competitions and other summer programs.
 
Player Eligibility (Dates and locations are subject to change):
 
Player eligibility rules will be defined by the BCSSA Board. A player must be eligible to participate in BCSSA Water Polo on the BCSSA member team registration date.
 
A BCSSA player can only participate in water polo activities during the competitive season that have been approved by a BCSSA Standing Committee which includes; the Provincial Water Polo Director and two Regional Directors, as appointed by the President.
 
The following are ineligible to play BCSSA Water Polo:

1. Athlete no registered with BCSSA.
2. Athlete registered in the wrong age category.
3. Athlete under suspension due to brutality.
4.  Athlete who has played with a BCWP selected team* at any of the following events will be deemed ineligible:
   1.  Provincial Senior Championships           Exact location and date TBA
   2.  National Championships
      Youth: Womens’ April 25-27, 2008 Montreal
                      Mens’ May 8-11, 2008 Montreal
      Junior:  Womens’ & Mens’
                  Exact location and date TBA
   3.  Any Senior Tier I Tournament -            Includes any CNWPL games or tournaments,

   4.  Any individual attending a Water Polo Canada’s National Team Training or Section Camp (Youth, Junior or older).
   5.  Participation on a Water Polo Canada Youth or National Team. Any National Team roster including Junior or Youth National Teams, Nor Am tournament teams, Junior or Youth, Dream Teams, Western Canada Youth Selects, or National Youth Selects. All are designated as Water Polo Canada National Team programs.
      A selected team also includes BCWP clubs if they have attended one of these events.

A player may appeal to the BCSSA Water Polo Director, for permission to return to BCSSA Water Polo after attending Youth Nationals and/or a Water Polo Canada Youth Camp once and sitting out for a period of one year.
